Wales Week London
It’s back! Wales Week London - the two-week global celebration of Wales. And we’re delighted to be part of the celebrations & to sponsor an eclectic programme of events for the third year running
Created to commemorate Wales’ national day, celebrate Welsh culture and heritage and to promote a modern Wales to the world, Wales Week London is everything we look for in our collaborations and partnerships - people who share our values and ambition for Wales.
As ‘First of March’ our name was chosen to reflect our Welsh connection - but more than that our national day celebrates our Patron Saint - St David, who to fulfil his mission travelled beyond the borders of Wales.
Our mission is to drive a global celebration of contemporary Welsh craftsmanship, to nurture independent makers and the sustainability of the communities in which they live and work.
In so doing we’re creating a different and contemporary cultural story of Wales through the collections of exquisite objects and award-winning makers that we showcase through First of March.
A story that connects us to our past, satisfies our present and looks to our future, that cherishes the heritage of craft while making it relevant and current.
In the stories of our makers - stories of their materials, their processes and inspiration: stories of creative passion and pride, stories of unique skill and knowledge of their craft: stories creating an emotional and human connection between maker and collector - we are telling the story of the master craftsmen in Wales, the story behind collections of exquisite craftsmanship and excellence - taking a modern story of Wales to the world!
And in these tales, you’ll discover the story of First of March. A journey of discovery and positivity founded on the cornerstones of Hiraeth, Hwyl and Cynefin - collectively epitomising the connection, creativity and storytelling power of exquisite, contemporary craft and craftsmanship.
So we hope you will join us as we reach out to the world for a unique and very special celebration of Wales - February 20th - March 6th 2022.
