Chris Bird -Jones

Glass & Sculpture

Chris Bird-Jones MA (RCA) is an award winning artist, working to commission and exhibiting internationally. She is a Creative Wales Ambassador, an active member of the Women’s International Glass Workshop and a member of Culture Declares Emergency.

Within her multi - disciplined arts practice Bird -Jones is fascinated by the phenomenal nuances of refracted light and shadow, especially when glass is juxtaposed with sunlight. Often returning to particular themes, objects, forms and metaphors, she harnesses the playful transience of natural light in her work.

Bird-Jones' most recent solo exhibition, rydym i gyd yn fregus / we are all fragilepremiered at Mission Gallery, Swansea before touring to Ruthin Craft Centre where it was selected by the Crafts Council as one of the Top Ten exhibitions to see in February 2022. The exhibition showcased a series of blown forms, the result of creative research and development with the spoon form.

“Interacting with these pieces requires care; to be considered and secure, cradled in one’s arms like a newborn child. One slip and all would be lost, shattered, mirroring the fragility of our human condition, of a life in balance.” - Bird -Jones, 2022

Bird -Jones has had her work commissioned in many parts of the world and has artworks held in public and private collections including the Art in Public Places Exhibition of the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, Hawaii, in National Library Iceland, Reykjavik, in National Library Wales, Aberystwyth, and the Godown Arts Centre, Kuala Lumpur, and at POWIS, Penang, Malaysia, plus private commissions in UK, Europe, NZ and USA.
