This collection of unique, contemporary pieces is inspired by the outstanding rural landscapes near Tara’s home on the Powys Castle estate. Together with natural phenomena, they influence the form, texture and colour of her work. As well as the natural world, she has a keen interest in geology which is the particular inspiration for this body of work in the form of flowing lava. Whether wheel thrown or hand built, every piece is manipulated with self made tools to create unique characteristics which are then carefully enhanced with bold, coloured engobes to highlight the surfaces.
Tara Squibb is based close to Welshpool in Mid Wales. She studied at the School of Creative Arts at Wrexham Glyndwr University, specialising in ceramics. She won the people’s vote for the Carter Preston Exhibition in 2018 held at the Bluecoat Display Centre in Liverpool, which led to a solo window exhibition of her work there in 2019. Her work has also been showcased as ‘One to Watch’ in Ceramic Review’s Emerging Maker feature.
Tara is passionate about clay and says everything around her seems to stop when she is working with clay allowing her to fully focus on what the clay is doing. A sense of pride is achieved when a piece is complete and onlookers give their perception of what they see in the piece.
