Rauni Higson

Jewellery & Metal

Former Chair of Contemporary British Silversmiths and Livery of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, Rauni Higson is one of Britain’s leading silversmiths, now living and working from her studio in Snowdonia.

Having originally trained in Finland, Rauni specialises in hammer formed silver, drawing inspiration from the North Walian landscape of coast and mountain - a landscape with which she has a deep creative and emotional connection expressed through her hand made silver work.

Having been attracted to work with silver for its magical response to light, she plays with its extraordinary malleability to create pieces reflective of her creativity, skill and patience. Adopting the fold forming technique developed by Brian Clarke and with whom she trained, Rauni creates a unique sense of flow and movement in her sculptural pieces, reinterpreting the traditional skills of silversmithing to create stunning and beautiful contemporary pieces.

Commissions include 6 pieces in the Goldsmiths’ Company Collection, National Museum of Wales, Liverpool Met Cathedral, The Worshipful Company of Clothworkers, and Henley Royal Regatta.
