A ‘hand woven’ sculpture shaped by the heat of the kiln to bring the viewer inside the built environment.
Petersen 'builds' the internal structure to her work by weaving a metal fabric which she then dips into ceramic slip - the sculptural distortions created within the kiln as the metal reacts to the intense heat of firing.
Ruth uses her work to draw attention to the fragility of our constructed world and Night Time Dreams, created for Collect 2025, highlights the inadequacies and inequalities of our current housing system.
The black crystals and gold leaf are a specific addition to her work for Collect 2025 and reflect her constant experimentation with materials to amplify her story through these beautiful and fragile sculptures.

Picking up the soft golden, creamy hues of natural linen this beautiful piece by Suzanna James is a response to the words of Louise Bourgeois: 'The Needle is Used to Repair Damage'.
James' work is infused with an appreciation of the healing power of textiles - a recurring theme within her textile art which explores the capacity of a needle to repair specific damage to a piece of cloth or the communities in which the piece is made.
In this hand dyed and embroidered piece, James interprets our curatorial theme for Collect 2025 by touching on deeper themes within our curation - the influence and impact of our industrial heritage on our landscape and communities and how the 'damage' can be redeemed through the hope that the needle and craft create.
'In Response….' is one of a developing series of work by Suzanna James which can be commissioned by enquiring below.
One of a series of sculptural works pairing antique flashed glass with weathered oak stumps retrieved from a Welsh hillside. The fern, the birch and the bo all have strong spiritual meanings, and these pieces celebrate life and its vibrancy and the cyclicality of nature. The glass is mouth-blown in France and Germany and has been acid-etched many times, in order to create the patterns and textures. The glass has also been gilded, using silver and copper leaf applied by hand. The oak is as found on the hillside but cleaned back.

Using hand dyed fabric with cotton silk and polyester threads this unique piece is created with hand and machine embroidery.
